As I write this, the car still has traces of September beach sand, but the familiar scent of salt air is giving way to the crisp sweetness of apple and the earthy richness of leaves. The fall equinox isn’t just an astronomical event for us; it’s a deeply personal transition that mirrors the changes happening in our own lives right now.
From Sand to School
This summer, like so many families, we squeezed every drop of joy from the beach season. Long sunny days, the sticky sweetness of ice cream cones, and that particular exhaustion that comes from summer became our rhythm. Yet here we are, suddenly deep in the reality of first grade.
Our Own Return to School
But here’s what’s interesting about this fall—we’re not just sending someone off to school; we’re heading back ourselves. This October, my Yoga Therapy program resumes, and I’ll be diving deeper into the ancient practices that help people find healing through movement, breath, and mindful awareness.
Mario’s sound training continues to intensify, his days filled with the intricate work of understanding how frequencies and vibrations can create healing spaces. The studio has become this beautiful experience where precise technical knowledge merges with intuitive understanding of what the human nervous system craves.
The Art of Balancing Everything
Balance. It’s the word that comes up in almost every conversation we have these days. Not just the perfect balance of day and night that defines the equinox, but the daily juggling act of small business ownership, parenting, continuing education, and somehow maintaining our own well-being in the mix.
As small business owners, we’re constantly swinging between work schedules and family time, between saying yes to opportunities and protecting our energy for what matters most.
Meditation and Forest Bathing
The fall transition has us reassessing all our daily rhythms, including the ones that keep us grounded. Meditation has become less negotiable as our schedules intensify. The thing is, we can always make time. Sometimes it is first thing in the morning, before bed or before an evening session.
Setting aside at least one day to dedicate to family and nature has also been a priority. For us, that often includes Sunday forest bathing. The Japanese term is Shinrin-yoku, a practice of therapeutic relaxation where we are able to spend time in a forest connecting with nature.
Where Are You Finding Balance These Days?
This brings us to a question we’ve been asking lately: Where are you finding balance these days? We’re genuinely curious because it feels like everyone is navigating their own version of seasonal transition right now. Comment below and let us know what brings you balance this equinox!
The Equinox Invitation
I’m always amazed by how this astronomical moment of perfect balance now feels like permission to embrace our own imperfect balancing act. The earth doesn’t struggle to create this equilibrium, it’s simply the natural result of its journey through space and time.
Maybe that’s the real gift of the equinox. The gentle reminder that balance isn’t something we force or achieve through perfect planning. It’s something that emerges when we align ourselves with natural rhythms, when we honor both our seasons of expansion and our seasons of turning inward.
So as the days and nights find their perfect equilibrium this week, we’re taking it as a reminder to be gentle with ourselves and with each other. To celebrate the harvests that this season brings. And to trust that even when life feels unbalanced, we’re still part of a larger rhythm that knows exactly what it’s doing.
